Why did my Input Schedule not automatically update?
Often times an input schedule can be used when intending to run Haulage or Destination Scheduling over a model while wanting to keep Source Scheduling the same. This allows the user to make changes to the area they are interested in without having to waste time watching Source Scheduling get recompiled for the exact same result.
This can cause some issues when looking specifically at the Haulage example.
In an example where we have both Source and Destination Scheduling turned off, the input schedule will only be repopulated when we turn Source Scheduling on. Meaning that if the user finds some errors in the input schedule that are related to the Destination Scheduling, they will need to turn not just Destination Scheduling on, but Source Scheduling as well to fix the issue.
Why not make the input schedule update when Source Scheduling is off and Destination Scheduling is turned on?
When Destination Scheduling is on and Source Scheduling isn't, the source scheduling will read from the input schedule. This input schedule will be functionally the same as the output of Source Scheduling, however there are some slight differences.
A Source task might say that a digger is moving 1000bcm continuously from a single area for 2 days. Once we add Destination Scheduling the task might need to be broken into two, if the first day would dump in pit 1 and the second day would dump in pit 2. If the input schedule was updated at this point then if we removed all the Destination Scheduling and re-ran the Schedule we would still have the output as the two split steps rather than the original one step.
This distinction may be quite small, however as numbers are not continuous, the more they get divided up the more chance there is for very small differences to occur. If the schedule automatically updated then we may end up continually shaving fractions of a second off a task each time the schedule was run, eventually giving less and less accurate results.
